Geodesy
Cercle répétiteur de Borda
Bearing compass
Used at the First Gymnasium of Athens, Plaka.
It consists of a horizontal circle, a magnetic needle and sights, set on a tripod with levelling screws.
Functioning:
Sighting an object thrugh the sights gives the bearings of the object.
Theodolite
Part of a theodolite which consists of a telescope fitted with a spirit level and which is free to rotate about its vertical and horizontal axes.
Functioning:
Used in surveying, navigation and meteorology.the theodolite allows accurate reading of horizontal and vertical angles and is used in surveying, navigation and meteorology.
Planimeter Maho
The planimeters serve to determine exactly and quickly the surface-areas of plane areas having straight or curvilinear borders e.g. on maps. plans, recording diagrams and the like as well as for finding the arithmetic mean value ofareas e.g. indicator-diagrams.
Astronomical theodolite
Model DKM3-A
Serial No 188524
The DKM3-A is a variant of the Double Circle Triangulation Theodolite DKM3, the principal changes being those necessary to facilitate the addition of an astronomic micrometer accuracy: The results indicate that the DKM3-A is capable of producing first-order latitude and longitude determinations.
Theodolite
The theodolite is a portable instrument, used in astronomy, topography and geodesic work for the measurement of angles on a horizontal and vertical level.
The Bancks theodolite was probably used by the British survey missions which worked in the region from 1811 to 1860.
The instrument has not been restored.
